Lyrics

Most girls your age would be tugged to your friend, Whose charisma and bravado never fail to make you laugh. It's hard to tell a story about one so close, Especially when anxiety about them threatens to strangle you. You're not afraid for them but rather of their feelings to you, How they would think of you if they knew how you felt. You bonded slowly but surely over coincidental seating charts, and other mutual interests. How is it that now you can't sort your feelings for him, Like some lovebird singing their birdsong in your head? Now you've gotten so close that you stay up at night, Texting memes and talking about anything. Your acquaintances ship you and say you look cute together, But you both shrug it off like it's simply teasing. But you yearn to know what is it really, Are you being ridiculous and maybe overthinking it? And then the night comes where his carefree texts darken, Going from jokes to stories of lost purity in friends. He asks of a promise and you say yes, Knowing that secrets were merely an mental method of security. He tells you much about his life and his problems with others, Even his relationships with others you realize he kept hidden very well. It takes a while to answer but time is of the essence, Especially when he tells you how much he's hurting. You want nothing but to stop the hurt, So you give him the best advice you can muster. It seems that he is better but you admit you have no idea, And only time will tell after your late-night talks. What about your choice to say it you ask yourself, Would it change how we speak or laugh or glance? "Let him guess for now what you lack in feeling, And tomorrow we'll see if he's any better."
