It’s You (Commentary)

Lyrics
[Commentary: Wax & Kush Mody] Haha, that's the funniest count-in I love that you kept that, y'know. That's very like uh- I'd say that's very "on brand" for me, you know what I'm sayin', for that to be the saying. This song is called "It's You", started as like a little acoustic ditty, and somehow Kush turned it into this funky- uh, especially the chorus part, it's so epic with the horns and it kinda builds each time and then you do that counter melody thing with uh Camila Yeah Is counter melody the right word there? Yeah. Yeah, yeah And then uh, like here, with the horns, it almost it almost has uh, Off The Wall thing, you know? Uh huh I remember- It's got a real like loungey croon- crooner kinda vibe to it I remember you sendin' me this song and being like, "the 'you' isn't 'magical' enough yet" Ah, haha Remember? Yeah! And you were like, "yeah, you're right" We went- Lil bi- lil bit more fairy dust Yeah, we put- we probably like two or three rounds of fairy dust Yeah, and I think it got to the right point Yeah. By fairy dust we mean chimes and woodwinds and strings and shit And maybe- And harp -Another layer of Camila, you know? Yup, yeah Shoutout Camila Recchio for being awesome and uh your bandmate That's right, that's right Your bandmate Feed the Biirds, Shoutout Feed the Biirds Biirdhouse Studio is where it is Yeah And this song is basically about uh, somebody that I know that would always be having things happen in their life and blame, "like the universe just isn't sending me the right kinda signals right now" and then he'd tell you the problem, and it'd be like, "Dude! That's you fuckin' up, man" but uh, it's very- it's exactly what the song says it's not masked in any sort of way. Yo! this bass-line is funky. I told you while we were making the album my favorite part of the album is the bass playing. And it's like- Thanks, man. I take a lot of pride, I take a lot of time in crafting a good bass-line And a good bass tone too. That Höfner sound is like pretty much the sound of this album, but like- Yeah. This wasn't the Höfner, though This was not? Nah, this was my five string, this was my Sadowsky Ah, the Sadowsky Yeah Is that Kurt Blankenship' joint? He's the one who put me onto that bass Ah Yeah, yeah Then, it kinda comes back in with the voice memo thing I love this This is like an example of what I'm talking about with the thesis of this song. You got a parking ticket because you parked in illegal spot. You can't blame that on the universe, y'know. If you parked in a regular spot, and by the time you got back, they made it illegal and put a sign up, you can blame that on the universe That would be- yeahm that would be the universe's fault Right
