Lyrics

[Commentary: Wax & Kush Mody] Nice Bass tone, Kush. What's that? Thanks, man. A little Höfner action What made you decide to, uh, use the Höfner on this song? I used the Höfner on like half the songs on the album. It's like my go-to for 60s-70s vibes. This one has like an Al Green theme going on Yeah, it's interesting. I was thinking Al Green and Otis Redding, but also like Randy Newman Yeah. The- the chords Yeah. And the way that I sing it too. Like I- I am not- I am so not Al Green, you know? No, you're not Al Green, but you know what you are? I'm Mike Jones That's right I have, what's the name? One syllablе- one- one syllable. So, wе're pretty much- Dude, Mike Jones is such a classic sounding name, like you could've been a artist from the 60s Yeah Well, there like Tom Jones I mean there's a rapper Mike Jones True Y'know. But yeah, in this case uh, you know it's interesting about this song is like we purposely did the chorus where it's like it's just one guy it's just- just- just me singing the chorus. We didn't stack it, and it's supposed to sound like heartfelt. But for me, listening to myself, It's hard sometimes to hear my own heartfelt-ness. So- Yeah I don't- I don't- I- I hope it came across Oh, absolutely, absolutely. Uh, yeah no this song was uh, a jam uh, from back in the day, from like, probably six years ago Yeah, I wanted to tell you about that uhm, or talk about that on here. This was actually the first song from the album that we worked on Yeah But, it's almost like this was way befo- years before I met my wife and I almost feel like I needed to meet her first to write the verses That's right In some random cases, songs woul- songs would come together over the course of- I mean, it was probably seven years ago, we wrote the- Yup -The chorus That was just a jam we were here, and uh, there's probably a voice memo somewhere of it. But, we- we just had this like, you wer- you were playing the drums, I was playing the keys, and we came up with the hook Yeah And then, we just sta on th- that without any verses on it for years Sometimes, you have to st- and, you know. So- as you know, songs can come together in a number of different ways, but sometimes, you need time separate from something then to hear it again and go like, "Yo, that was a good one" you know? Well we, we made some progress on this album, and then, probably like three quarters of the way through, we were pretty much almost done with it, and we realized, "Oh, this would be a perfect addition to this album" Yeah And then, you- and then, you wrote the verses pretty quickly Sometimes, an album has- you're like, "it's missing something" and then, this was the thing that kinda fullf- well, kinda filled it up Yeah And, in fact, I think, Congratulatory Trinkets and Never Had a Chance were the only ones that were after this one Exactly This was almost the last song we finished on this album
