[Commentary: Wax, Kush Mody, Both] You know what I hate, Kush? What's that? When you show somebody, one of your new songs, and instead of just listening to the song, they just talk through the entire song. They're like, "yeah this one would be great in a movie this one was re… I really like the way this one sounds, its a great song." I'm like, "you haven't even heard the song." Like, bro How do you know? Yeah You don't know the structure, you don't know whats coming up, you've heard three seconds of this thing, and you're already rambling ovеr the entire… frеakin' thing Well, that's what we're about to do, so… Yeah. This is the d- the director's commentary or artist/producer commentary. My name is Wax My name is Kush Mody And uh… you know this is kinda like back in the day when you'd get a DVD, when DVDs of movies were still popular, and they'll have the version of the movie and then they have the m- the movie with directors commentary, you know? Did anybody watch tho- like did anybody actually… enjoy that? I… *Laugh* I don't think I- I don't think I seen one I think I saw one for the Matrix Oh, really? When that one came out, yeah Did it reveal to you like how The Matrix was made? Yeah, that's how I know so much about it Damn But that's- we're not- that's not what this is about Well now you got me thinking about The Matrix and Keanu Reaves and whatnot. I was just thinking about Keanu Reaves, uh, recently. Because I was talking about how like-alot a lot of like- He's kind- he's kind of become a national treasure He is a national treasure Yeah He has his own vibe, you know? I was saying that a lot of like good looking white guy actors like look exa- like Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Ben Affleck; indistinguishable. Keanu Reaves? Well, one-in-a-million One-in-a-billion. Dude he's the one *Laugh* He's the one, man. Anyway uh, welcome to Lifetime Achievement Award. It's playing in the background right now. Switch to the other disc if you wanna actually hear the song without us talking about, uh various actors. Uhm, yeah, so the- this song, the title track, this is Lifetime Achievement Award. I think I conceptualized this, uh just as a little acoustic ditty, and I uh brought it to Kush and he turned it into this Operatic- WOAH Camila fuckin' Recchio, y'all You can't help but- obv- this obviously harkens back to something we know. Y'know w'I'm saying. There's an obvious reference here. Yeah, yeah To Pink Floyd Exactly, yeah. Dark Side of the Moon Yeah, and uhm, I don't think people like giv- I think now people are scared to give credit to who they are influenced by Dude I was thinking about this recently, I think it would be sick if the norm was, you know like when you write a paper, an academic paper, you have to cite your sources. Yes Imagine if artists had to cite their influences. On everything- As long as a- as long as they- they are like are aware of it. If they- if it's y'know subconscious that's one thing, but a lot of times we go in to the studio or into a project being like, "I wanna make something like this, I saw this last night, I heard this last night, and I'm inspired, and I- and I wanna make something in this vibe" And we just do it, and- We have to keep it a secret And then yeah, it's kind- Because the first thing that would happen mo-in modern times, the first thing that would happen is a company would start, looking at your notes and looking for copyright infringement Yeah Looking for a "piece of the pie" Exactly, but imagine if the norm was just like, you know we're all transparent about it, and th- there wasn't this kind like cash grab shit That would be awesome. And that was Lifetime Achievement Award, we barely talked about it
