Lyrics

[Intro] I now come to Follies One of the most thrilling and terrifying experiences of my career Was doing Follies in Concert at Avery Fisher Hall The plan was simple To make a complete, definitive recording of the score And they were going to be filming rehearsals for a documentary We would rehearse for five days Five days! Every day was an adventure On the third day of rehearsal, as thе documentary was being filmed Wе were all sitting on the floor And we were watching Barbara Cook and George Hearn sing "Too Many Mornings" When out of the corner of my eye I see Lee Remick and Carol Burnett giggling And pointing to something behind me So I turn and look And there is Elaine Stritch, butt-naked from the waist down Giving herself an insulin shot I don't think that's in the documentary It was a privilege to play Young Sally to Barbara Cook's Sally For both concerts, I stood in the wings And I watched her sing this next song And I remember thinking "She is so incredible And what a great song But you need to be so much older to sing it"
