Flag Day

Lyrics
About a decade ago I quoted JFK and read it on Flag Day and won a hundred bucks I spent that money on a painting of acrylic blocks on black and it still hangs in my room Well that must have been 4th grade yeah cuz in 5th grade we had the same assignment This time I wrote about racism plaguing our judicial system and it didn't go over well Mrs. O, my old 4th grade teacher came up to me and said "Danny I'm sorry "But you can't talk about all that on Flag Day" When I was in 3rd grade my brother wrote his Flag Day speech about how our family fled Latvia Told 'em about the pogroms and our family name and how our villages all went up in flames He went on about America, how it was our family's true home and how hе loved it oh so much He didn't win but 2 years latеr, Shannon Marie won talking about Ireland She went on about America, about how it was her family's salvation and how she loved it oh so much And I guess that's what they want on Flag Day Well I'm not an idiot, I'm just a patriot and I never ever learned how to gloss over all the bad Yeah this is America and it's our home but I don't have to say I love it and that's that When I was a kid I knew that if I loved this country and I do I'd have to learn how to talk back Well I'm not an idiot, I know I'm still a kid but I don't have to be a foolish patriot Well I'm not an idiot, I know I'm still a kid but I don't need to be a foolish patriot
