Song Meaning
The lyrics open with a declaration of mathematical certainty: "All veit at sirkeln den e rund" (Everyone knows the circle is round). This sets up a world where fundamental truths, like the formula for a circle's area, are absolute and unchangeable. The circle itself is presented as eternal and unbreakable, a perfect, unchanging form. This initial certainty, however, soon contrasts with the narrator's past state of confusion and insignificance.
The narrator describes a former self as "en liten prikk" (a small dot), lost and directionless, feeling like "en null i mente" (a zero in mind). This period of uncertainty is starkly juxtaposed with the established, perfect geometry of the circle. The core tension arises from this shift: from being an undefined point to finding purpose and place within a defined structure.
The turning point arrives with the introduction of another person, who "ga mæ lengden / PÃ¥ radien din" (gave me the length / Of your radius). This act is framed as a form of "matematikk" (mathematics), suggesting that this person provided the narrator with definition and direction. The narrator's identity transforms from a vague quantity to something with measurable value and a place within a larger, ordered system.
This newfound clarity allows the narrator to understand their position in the universe: "No veit æ ka, no veit æ kor / No veit æ kor i universet æ bor" (Now I know what, now I know where / Now I know where in the universe I live). The lyrics conclude by returning to the image of the circle, but now the narrator actively participates in its eternal motion, "dele mæ i to" (dividing myself in two) and moving "rundt og rundt" (around and around). This suggests a sense of belonging and purpose found within the cyclical, unending nature of existence, a stark contrast to their earlier feeling of being a lost "null."
