Lyrics

[Chorus] Ain't it funny what a little drink can do? Makes you wanna laugh when you're blue You can do the things you always wanted to Ain't it funny what a little drink can do? [Verse 1] The time had come when the drunkard had At last, found himself at the end of his rope, just a bum This time, when he came to, he was in the city dump He then thought of all of the shame and the grief that he had caused his loved ones So, finding an old stub of a pencil and a piece of paper, he began to write "Dear Dad, this is the end I have sunk as low as a man can sink I have lost all that I have ever owned My friends, my wealth and my health." He then noticed, in the trash and garbage A half-filled bottle of wine, which he drank Then, he finished the letter to his father "And Pop, if there's anything I can ever do for you Just let me know" [Chorus] Ain't it funny what a little drink can do? Makes you wanna laugh when you're blue You can do the things you always wanted to Ain't it funny what a little drink can do? [Verse 2] The folks in a small town had decided to scare the town drunk So that he would never take another drink So they hauled him out to the cemetery While he was still under the influence of his latest binge And placed him into an open grave They awaited for morning to come When they knew that he would wake up And, finding where he was, perhaps that would scare him And he would never ever take another drink As the sun came up, they heard a groan Then he poked his head out of the grave He gazed around with his bloodshot eyes at the tombstones surrounding him They heard him say, "Glory be! Here it is, [???] dead And I'm the first man up!" Ain't it funny what a little drink can do? [Chorus] Ain't it funny what a little drink can do? Makes you wanna laugh when you're blue You can do the things you always wanted to Ain't it funny what a little drink can do? [Verse 3] One night, a policeman came up on a drunk Who was hanging on to the lamppost and was gazing at the reflection of the moon In a puddle of water on the street The drunk asked the policeman, said, "Say, what is that down there?" To which the policeman replied and said, "Why, that's the moon" The drunk remarked, "That's the moon way down there?" And the cop replied, "Yep!" To which the drunk said, "Man, I've been high before, but this is ridiculous!" [Chorus] Ain't it funny what a little drink can do? Makes you wanna laugh when you're blue You can do the things you always wanted to Ain't it funny what a little drink can do?
