The Trainyard

Lyrics
At the edge of the empty trainyard, Thomas halts. The girl's insistent voice is drowned out by the echoes of this place. The steel wheels that carried him here and the whispers of the ghosts who followed him By the time the memories have grown quiet, so has the girl. They make their way across the tracks and through the entrance of the mouldering building As they climb the seemingly endless flights of stairs, shе begins her pitch again. She sharеs with him the many theories she has developed over the years about where to bein the search, if only he would ... But she stops suddenly as he slides open the heavy door, and they cross the threshold into a dimly lit workshop He walks into a darkened corner and reemerges carrying a large dust-covered case. He sets it on the desk and opens it to reveal a machine with a small screen and several dials. he flips the switch on the front. The tubes hum and the display flickers to life "I've always know how to find him," he tells her. "I just don't think anything can convince him to come back here. He made the choice to leave. That's what makes him different, see ... he can choose ..." A red dot glows faintly on the right side of the gridded map on the screen. Thomas falls silent, shakes his head and mumbles something under his breath. His hand raps against the side of the machine. The screen flickers and the entire grid, dot and all, vanishes. He gives it another shake, gently coaxing it back to life as he spins the bottom dial, and the grid reappears, now zoomed out to include the full outline of the city He zooms further out to reveal the outskirts. The trainyard. The river to the east. The desert to the north. The mountains at the edge of the desert
