Chiapas

Lyrics
[Intro] You know, there's a Young creative musician that's led a band for a few years And we all admire him greatly And are watching very carefully the moves he makes Because we believe he is One of the exciting sources of big band jazz in the future I'm speaking of Don Ellis We— Don Ellis a number of years ago fell in love with experimental things Involving different time signaturеs Different subdivisions of rhythm and so forth And to those of us that arе musicians, believe me We have to admit that it's a pretty complicated affair But we are delighted this evening because we have with us A composer that has walked arm-in-arm with Don Ellis all the way so far And we have asked him to bring some of this music to us We're going to ask him to conduct it this evening Before we introduce the composition we'd like to introduce him His name is Hank Levy from Baltimore, Maryland—Hank Hank, I've heard Don Ellis try to explain What goes on with some of this music many times And it's a, a pretty complicated affair And, uh, it's not good for my ego being a musician To realize that I can't understand what he's talking about So I won't ask you to explain it Because you're probably deeper into it than Don And you'd complicate things more So, uh, ha ha ha! This is an original composition of Hank Levy's Uh, the title of which is "Chiapas" And if you enjoy it, we'll give you an address You can write him, to Mr. Levy, and he'll explain what happened "Chiapas"—Hank, go ahead [Instrumental] [Outro] Hank Levy
