Lyrics
[Intro] People as us a lot of times about our influences, and they're all over the place as a band But one of them is, we grew up in a church. Our dad was a preacher, when we were kids we'd listen to gospel music And we were the bad kids. My mom would only let us listen to Christian music when we were kids, and me and my brother hated that. And we'd tape stuff off the radio in our bedroom and then we took it to our Christian school and sold the tapes. So there'd be Amy Grant tapes, but Sir Mixalot would be on there But there was a bunch of gospel music that we love from that time, stuff like this right here: I'm free Praise the Lord, I'm free I'm no longer bound There's no more chains holding me My soul is a-resting Oh, what a blessing Praise the Lord Hallelujah, I am free And that led us to write some stuff like this: [Verse 1] Daddy was a preacher And she was his wife Just tryin' to make the world a little better You know, shine a light [Verse 2] But people started talking Just to hear their own voice Those people tried to accuse my father Said he made the wrong choice [Verse 3] Though it might be painful You know that time will always tell Those people have long since gone My father never failed [Chorus] 'Cause even when the rain falls Even when the flood starts rising Even when the storm comes I am washed by the water Even when the rain falls Even when the flood starts rising Even when the storm comes I am washed by the water [Bridge] 'Cause even when earth crumbles under my feet Even when the ones I love turn around and crucify me I won't never ever let you down I won't fall, I won't fall, I won't fall as long as You're around me [Chorus] 'Cause even when the rain falls Even when the flood starts rising Even when the storm comes I am washed by the water Even when the rain falls Even when the flood starts rising Even when the storm comes I am washed by the water
