John Wesley Harding's "World of Light" isn't a simple hymn to transcendence; it's a far more unsettling meditation on oblivion. The repeated image of people blithely navigating darkness, whether a literal power outage during a football game or the metaphorical darkness outside a hotel room, speaks to a human tendency to persist, even thrive, in the face of uncertainty and potential danger.
