Song Meaning
The lyrics open with a declaration of a new beginning, "This is the first page of my evolution." The narrator immediately connects this growth to a need for connection, stating, "I walk on two legs to embrace you" and "I breathe with you because I'm lonely alone." This sets up a narrative of development driven by a desire for companionship.
The initial innocence of this growth is quickly complicated by a shift in perspective and a darker turn. The narrator, addressing their parents, announces a new love, receiving a simple "Congratulations." However, this is immediately followed by a disturbing question directed at the beloved: "Hey, whose milk are you drinking now to live?" This jarring question, alongside the observation that the beloved might be learning words, hints at a possessive and potentially unhealthy fixation.
The core tension emerges as the narrator's attempts to connect become destructive. The "front paws" meant for embracing now seem to hurt the beloved, and newly learned words transform into a "knife" that "cuts through life." A new voice, seemingly the beloved's, offers a chilling solution: "Then I'll use this mouth to seal that mouth before the knife is released." This suggests a cycle of hurt and a desperate, perhaps violent, attempt to control or consume the other person's expression.
The lyrics then pivot to a more aggressive, consuming desire. The narrator, now possibly embodying the second voice, declares, "From now on, you will live by breathing my breath." Words become "rusted with saliva," and the narrator expresses a wish for the beloved to permanently inhale their words, to "die breathing my words forever." This intense, almost parasitic need for control and absorption is the ultimate, destructive outcome of the initial desire for connection.
