Lyrics

[Spoken] I'm at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, what I should probably start by telling you That the extent of my fine arts education Comes from the mini art program at Jefferson Elementary school That it is For six weeks every spring, a different volunteer mother Would come in, every tuesday after class To lecture the sixth grader about an artist and their work And I spent most of that time Starring at the window thinking about Whitney Houston's songs Now, I'm at the Metropolitan Museum of Art And I'm looking for something [Sung] The thing that gets me up and pulls me down thеse hallways always every day For most important part of what I want and еverything I see The sight that I crave when I'm waking With every turn that I'm taking Give me Give me That kind of something that allows imagination to explode alive That thing that when it's there in front of me I want to be a part Oh, of the story I'm writing and weaving In my head, "Hey look! I'm believing in art" Whoa, am I smart? No! But it starts with Color I'm ready, I'm waiting, I'm wanting, I'm needing The world to give me Color Blow my mind, fill my life with the right kind of Color Everywhere Color Paint the air with you With you [Spoken] So I grab my sketchbook I stroll at a pensive pace I tap my chin I nod my head I say things like "Oh yes" And, oh, isn't it just fabulous, fabulous And one on one reviews of light and order Design and tension, balance, okay whatever [Sung] Inside this building, with a million different things for me to contemplate Here within a city that is pretty much a wash in shades of grey I want my infatuation, my plush pant on flushed saturation, my way I say, today give me Color I'm hungry, I'm aching, I'm horny and ravenous bliss for all this Color Move your brush, make it lush, feel the rush in of Color Everywhere Color Paint the air with you With you Doesn't matter if I don't understand Cause I'm looking and I'm seeing and I don't understand Does it matter that it's like I'm just reacting to a primary world Crayola Crayola Crayola Crayola Did it start for them in a similar way Did they look at tubes of paint and canvases and then say "I don't understand the how or what I'm making today But I crave, I want, I need I'm going to make me a big fat crazy world of Color" They're genius inspired they're reckless and wired They're hopped up on the Color No more sane, fill that frame, sign your name in Color Understand Color No living plan anymore So come on, give a hand [Spoken] Here we go Color Hmm, this is Smashed Strokes Hope by Joan Snyder, 1971 The description reads "In this riot of color, there is a palpable tension between regularity and irregularity, pattern and chaos, control and spontaneity" Sounds like me Joan [Sung] And then so suddenly I start to see a pattern in the ones I choose Deep inside the kelly green and lavender, the yellow, red and blue Start of a story is showing Even if I'm still not knowing How to walk through Walk through Walk through Walk through I'll find you
