Buffalo Soldier

Lyrics
[Intro – spoken word] When America was still just a young country – many soldiers went to battle, so that this land could become the great United States of America. This story's about a group of soldiers that made up one segment of the U.S. Cavalry, during the great Indian uprising. To the Indian, this soldier looked strange and different – because he wasn't white. He was black, and robust looking, with thick wooly hair. He sort-of reminded the Indian of his great buffalo. So, the Indian called the black cavalry soldier: The Buffalo Soldier [Verse 1] In the 1800s Arizona, Mexico Came a brand new soldier The Indians called him Buffalo From prison camps and slavery The black man came to be The hard riding hero Of the Tenth Cavalry [Chorus] Buffalo Soldier Buffalo Soldier Will you survive in This new land? Buffalo Soldier Buffalo Soldier When will they call you A man? [Verse 2] Many of the soldiers Wanted to desert Tired of the hatred Tired of the hurt Tired of killing And the misery But they had to keep on fighting So one day they'd be free [Chorus] Buffalo Soldier Buffalo Soldier Will you survive in This new land? Buffalo Soldier Buffalo Soldier When will they call you A man? [Verse 3] In 1898 Somewhere on San Juan Hill Roosevelt's rough riders Were waiting to be killed But in their darkest hour They heard the bugle blow The Tenth Cavalry saved them Thank God for Buffalo [Chorus] Buffalo Soldier Buffalo Soldier Will you survive in This new land? Buffalo Soldier Buffalo Soldier When will they call you A man? [Outro] Hmm-hmm, hmm-hmm Hmm-hmm, hmm...
