We knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it any less historic. As of this week, Mariah Carey has officially broken the all-time record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her holiday juggernaut, "All I Want For Christmas Is You," has now logged its 20th cumulative week at the top of the charts. This achievement pushes her past the previous record-holders: Lil Nas X’s "Old Town Road" and Shaboozey’s 2024 hit "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," both of which held the title with 19 weeks.

"Humbly Taking Back the Torch"

Carey took to social media to celebrate the milestone, posting a photo of herself holding a torch. "Humbly taking back the torch!! 20 weeks at #1… I’m so grateful," she wrote to her fans. This isn't the first time Carey has held this specific honor. Back in the 90s, her collaboration with Boyz II Men, "One Sweet Day," held the record for 16 weeks. Now, in 2025, she stands alone at the summit once again.

A Song That Defies Time

It is almost hard to believe that this track was released back in 1994. For a quarter of a century, it was a holiday staple, but streaming rules allowed it to finally hit No. 1 for the first time in 2019. Since then, like clockwork, it returns to the top spot every December. Beyond the No. 1 record, the song has now spent 76 weeks on the Hot 100 chart in total, tying it with Jason Mraz’s "I’m Yours" for the ninth-longest chart run in history.

Next Stop: The Winter Olympics

If breaking chart records wasn't enough, Carey dropped another bombshell today. She has been announced as the first musical performer for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The Queen of Christmas will be gracing the stage at the Opening Ceremony on February 6, 2026. It seems Mariah’s season is no longer just December—it’s forever.
