"There’s been a lot said, but never from my side of the story." Lost footage recovered from Kansas salt mines brings Elvis back to life in a new cinematic experience.
Elvis Presley has re-entered the building.
Director Baz Luhrmann, the visionary behind the 2022 biopic that reignited Elvis mania, has just dropped the first look at his ambitious new project: "EPiC: Elvis Presley In Concert."
Treasure in the Salt Mines This isn't your standard documentary. The film is built around a literal buried treasure—68 boxes of lost film reels discovered in the Warner Bros. archives, deep inside salt mines in Kansas. The stash included pristine 35mm and 8mm footage from the King's legendary Las Vegas residencies and the 1972 film Elvis on Tour. The catch? It was silent. Luhrmann’s team painstakingly restored the visuals and synced them with existing audio, creating a concert experience that hasn't been seen in over 50 years.
"My Side of the Story" The chilling new trailer opens with the iconic drums of "Also sprach Zarathustra" (the 2001: A Space Odyssey theme), showing Elvis nervously tapping his foot and twirling his ring before stepping on stage. But it’s the voiceover that hits hardest. "There’s been a lot written and a lot said, but never from my side of the story," Presley says, before launching into a powerful performance of "The Battle Hymn Of The Republic".
Not a Documentary, An Experience Luhrmann insists this project aims to do something new. "I wouldn’t call it a documentary... our aim here is to make something new in the Elvis canon," he told Deadline. The goal is to offer "deeper revelations of his humanity and inner life."
When Can You See It?
January 8: Advanced screenings at Graceland (on what would have been Elvis' 91st birthday).
February 20: Exclusive IMAX release.
February 27: General global release.
Get ready to see the King like never before.
