Now that the reunion is officially on, Oasis might be setting their sights on an even bigger target: Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
According to a new report from The Sun, Amazon MGM—the studio currently controlling the James Bond franchise—has placed Noel and Liam Gallagher at the very top of their wishlist to record the theme song for the next 007 installment.
The "British" Factor It makes sense on paper. A source told the outlet that the studio views the Bond films as "one of the great British franchises," so who better to helm the music than "one of the greatest ever British bands?" The pitch is simple: combine Liam’s legendary swagger with Noel’s gift for writing massive anthems, and you arguably have the perfect spy soundtrack.
Noel’s Long-Standing Ambition If this happens, it will be a dream come true for Noel Gallagher. The songwriter has been vocal for years about his desire to land the gig—and his frustration that he hasn’t gotten it yet.
He famously ranted to NME about the decision to hire Americans Alicia Keys and Jack White for the Quantum of Solace theme ("Another Way To Die"), calling it a "piss-take" that the greatest British agent was being soundtracked by Americans. Noel even claimed in the past that he has already written a couple of songs with Bond in mind. "They haven't got very Bond-esque titles, so I would have to tailor the title accordingly," he teased.
The New Bond Era The next chapter of James Bond is currently in development with some heavy hitters attached. Dune visionary Denis Villeneuve is reportedly directing, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is penning the script.
Knight recently told the BBC that writing for Bond has "always been on my bucket list," promising a script that is "stronger and bolder."
Will the Gallaghers finally get their license to kill? Stay tuned.
