The "Queen of Disco" has finally received one of the music industry's highest honors for her pen, not just her voice. On Tuesday, it was announced that the late Donna Summer has been posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
While the world knows her for defining the sound of the 70s with hits like "I Feel Love" and "Bad Girls," Summer was also the creative force behind many of her biggest tracks. The induction ceremony took place in West Hollywood, with her husband, Bruce Sudano, and their daughters in attendance to accept the award.
"The Thing She Felt Was Overlooked"
For Summer's family, this specific award carries a special weight. Bruce Sudano shared a touching insight into the singer's mindset before her passing in 2012. "With all the accolades that she received over her career, being respected as a songwriter was always the thing that she felt was overlooked," Sudano revealed.
"For her to be accepted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, I know that she’s very happy… somewhere," he added.
A Transformative Legacy
Summer was inducted by legendary songwriter Paul Williams, who didn't hold back on his praise. He described Summer not only as a defining voice of the 20th century but as a songwriter who "changed the course of music".
Williams noted that her songs—including anthems like "She Works Hard for the Money" and "Dim All the Lights"—continue to "inspire the world to dance and, above all, feel love".
Summer, who was already inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, has now solidified her legacy as a complete artist who crafted the very beats that made the world move.
