As 2026 begins, Journey founding guitarist Neal Schon has shared a heartfelt tribute to the band's 50-year legacy. In a message posted on New Year's Day, Schon honored the key figures who shaped the band, from original vocalist Gregg Rolie to the iconic Steve Perry and current frontman Arnel Pineda.
A Tribute to the "Soundtrack of People's Lives"
"For more than five decades, I have been fortunate to create songs with musicians that became the soundtrack to people's lives," Schon wrote. He credited former manager Herbie Herbert for the vision to bring in a new voice, which led to the era-defining addition of Steve Perry.
Schon also praised Arnel Pineda, noting that for the past 17 years, he has "carried these songs forward with passion, respect, and heart".
The "Final Frontier" & Jonathan Cain's Farewell
The message comes just ahead of the band's massive "Final Frontier" tour, set to kick off on February 28, 2026. However, this tour marks a bittersweet milestone. Schon confirmed that longtime keyboardist Jonathan Cain views this as his final chapter with the band.
"As has been shared publicly, Jonathan Cain has expressed that this tour represents his farewell chapter, and we respect that," Schon wrote.
Cain himself recently explained his decision, stating: "I wanna live my life... I would never, ever duck out on my fans without saying goodbye... So this is gonna be it for me".
Journey's "Final Frontier" tour will span two years, giving fans one last chance to see this lineup together on stage.
