The "Trap Queen" star is officially saying "Hey, what’s up, hello" to freedom sooner than expected. Rapper Fetty Wap (born Willie Junior Maxwell II) has been released from federal prison nearly a year early, marking a new chapter for the New Jersey native.
According to reports confirmed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the 34-year-old artist was transferred from a facility in Sandstone, Minnesota, on January 7, 2026—11 months ahead of his projected release date.
Out, But Not Totally Free
While he is no longer behind bars, Fetty isn't entirely off the hook just yet. He has been transferred to "community confinement" (essentially home confinement) overseen by the Philadelphia Residential Reentry Management Office. He will remain under this supervision until November 8, 2026.
The rapper was originally sentenced to six years in prison in May 2023 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine. His legal troubles began back in 2021 when he was arrested just before he was set to perform at Rolling Loud New York.
"Focused and Grounded"
In a statement to CNN, Fetty expressed gratitude and a new sense of purpose. "I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support — it truly means everything to me," he said.
He also revealed a shift in priorities, focusing on "giving back" and supporting at-risk youth through education and vision care. His publicist, Abesi Manyando, added that the rapper is in "good spirits" and is now focused on "family, fatherhood, music, and being an asset to his community".
Does this mean new music is on the horizon? While his main focus is family, the mention of "music" in his team's statement gives fans hope that the King of the Trap might be heading back to the studio soon.
