The Recording Academy confirmed on Monday that Harry Styles will return to the Grammy stage this Sunday, though not in the capacity many fans expected. The pop superstar will serve as a presenter for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, rather than performing his new material.
According to Grammy Executive Producer Ben Winston, the appearance was not guaranteed. Winston noted last week that while Styles is not performing, the production team "hoped we can persuade him to come if he’s in town." The confirmation signals that the persuasion was successful, placing Styles back in the spotlight just weeks before his new era fully launches.
A Massive Year for Styles
The presenter role comes amid a flurry of announcements for the British singer. His fourth studio album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, arrives on March 6 via Columbia Records.
More notably, Styles and Live Nation have unveiled the "Together, Together" world tour, which includes a record-breaking 30-night residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The tour will also stop for extended runs in Amsterdam, London, and Mexico City.
In a recent interview with John Mayer, Styles explained a shift in his creative process for this record. "I’ve always felt really guarded about who’s hearing it... I wanted to reverse that," he said, revealing that he played demos for friends to avoid the music feeling like a "product".
Doechii's Victory Lap
Joining Styles on the presenter lineup is Doechii. The TDE/Capitol rapper is currently enjoying a massive awards season run. After winning Best Rap Album last year for Alligator Bites Never Heal, she returns as a major contender with five nominations this year, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her single "Anxiety".
The 68th Grammy Awards will be hosted by Trevor Noah and broadcast live from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles this Sunday.
