If you ever wondered what a rock album from Bruno Mars would sound like, a private holiday party in New York just gave us the answer: absolute fire.
In what is already being called one of the most unexpected jam sessions of 2025, the pop superstar teamed up with genuine rock royalty for a secret gig that turned into a historic night of music. The event, held at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, was an exclusive holiday bash for investment firm Eldridge Industries.
But the real headline wasn't the corporate guest list; it was the "house band." Dubbed The Dirty Bats, the supergroup featured Slash and Duff McKagan from Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and producer Andrew Watt.
Mars took the stage to lead this powerhouse lineup through a set of gritty rock covers that set social media on fire.
Most notably, Mars paid tribute to his idol, Michael Jackson, with a blistering rendition of "Dirty Diana." The performance held special significance as Slash, who played guitar on the original track during Jackson’s Dangerous era, was right there beside him recreating the iconic riffs.
But Mars didn't stop at pop royalty. He dove headfirst into grunge, delivering a high-energy cover of Nirvana’s anthem "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
His set also showcased his versatility with classic rock staples, including Led Zeppelin’s "Whole Lotta Love," The Police’s "Roxanne," and Jimi Hendrix’s "Fire".
Bruno Mars wasn't the only A-lister on the mic. The 24-song setlist turned into a revolving door of icons:
Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) performed "Better Man" and "Corduroy".
Anthony Kiedis (Red Hot Chili Peppers) covered Motörhead’s "Ace of Spades".
Brandi Carlile belted out Queen’s "Tie Your Mother Down".
YUNGBLUD opened the night with The Rolling Stones’ "Start Me Up".
The night concluded with all the stars joining forces for a massive finale of Neil Young’s "Rockin’ In The Free World".
Fans online are already begging for a rock album from Mars, with one user noting that "Bruno needs to make a rock album, now". After this performance, it’s hard to argue with them.
