The Power of the Upside Down

It took 50 years, millions of tears, and one massive TV finale to make it happen. Fleetwood Mac’s masterpiece "Landslide" has officially entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in history, landing at No. 41.

While the song is arguably one of the most famous ballads ever written, the original 1975 studio recording never actually charted. It took the emotional weight of the Stranger Things series finale (aired December 31, 2025) to introduce the track to a generation that wasn't even born when Rumours was released.

Stevie Nicks: The Original Quarter-Life Crisis

Why does this song hit so hard for Gen Z right now? Because Stevie Nicks was exactly where they are.

In a resurfaced interview, Nicks revealed she wrote the song in 1973 when she was just 27 years old. "I did already feel old in a lot of ways. I’d been working as a waitress and a cleaning lady for years. I was tired," she said. That feeling of burnout and uncertainty about the future is the unofficial anthem of 2026.

Breaking the "Kate Bush Record"

We saw this happen in 2022 with Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill," but "Landslide" feels different. It’s not just an epic battle song; it’s a quiet moment of reflection that closed out one of the biggest shows in TV history.

According to data from Luminate, the track racked up 7 million streams in a single week. It’s also dominating across the pond, hitting No. 20 on the UK Official Singles Chart.

A Legacy Cemented

Until now, the only version of "Landslide" to touch the charts was the 1997 live version (which peaked at No. 51) and The Chicks' cover in 2002. But nothing beats the raw vulnerability of the original.

Whether you discovered it on vinyl or via Netflix, one thing is clear: Stevie Nicks asking, "Can I handle the seasons of my life?" is a question that never gets old.
